2014 More Than Just Weight Loss - Week One

Get ready everyone! We are beginning a journey to experience improved health and happiness and perhaps shock you with results that may be unexpected. As you've heard me say before, this program has been running for four years now and I have have seen countless people lose weight, inches and most importantly, significantly reduce or eliminate their health symptoms.

This is truly an amazing program and the reason why both myself and my wife participate every year.

Now to the nuts and bolts. This will be your blog through the program. This will allow you access to post questions and comments for me as well as interact with others in the program. There are many "More Than Just Weight Loss" veterans in the program as well as other health practitioners so the conversation on the blog will provide a high value. Also Lynda Buitrago, who is my partner in my office, will be sharing her expertise with you along this journey. She is also in the program with us and a veteran from last year.

As each new week begins, we will start a new blog. We have many in the program that are not starting on the same day so this will create ease of navigation for all, regardless of when they begin.

Each week I will post the supplement requirements for the week and sharing other news and tidbits to help you along the way. Please check in regularly for new posts and share from other participants. I will share that while the blog is not essential to your success, I do find that those participants that use the blog regularly consistently enjoy high levels of success.

Also remember the keys to this program. Allowable/avoidance foods, anti-inflammatory, liver detox, gut/brain connection and immune support. These will be your keys to health and happiness.

One last note. It does add an ease of navigation if you become a member of this blog. You can take care of this is the right header.

So here we go...

Wellness for the World,
Glen

    1. Great info, and this is exactly what I need right now!

  2. One of my favorite meals during this program is to pan fry organic nitrate free bacon and then use the bacon grease to saute brocolli. Cut up the bacon, add together and slice half and avocado for added fat. Love it!

  3. One supplement tidbit for you all. Disregard the syringe for the Resvero and Tumero (when it come in). Remove the plastic top with a butter knife for an ease of poring these into your teaspoon.

    1. Why discard it? Isn't the syringe the most accurate way to measure?

      Delete
    2. I have found that using the measuring spoon is easier for most for measuring as well as clean up. Anyone that enjoys the syringe is of course more than welcome to use if desired.

      Delete
    3. I agree with Sue. I wish all the bottles had syringe stoppers. To clean up, pull back syringe under running water then squirt out. V easy!

      Delete
    4. I like the syringe, too ;-)

    5. This is why we have a blog...to uncover all the syringe lovers. It is so helpful to get this info. Thank you!

  4. I take Repairvite every day. Can I continue to take it even though it hasn't been "introduced" yet into the program? Or should I stop it until it becomes added into the program?

    1. Yes. Actually any of these supplements can be taken throughout the entire program and after. This is simply designed in a specific line up to accomplish certain goals.

  5. 1. Are Hemp Hearts (hemp seeds) an allowable food? 2. Also is heart powder (for smoothies) an allowable food?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sorry but hemp is not allowed on the program unless you have completed a cross reactive intolerance test and know that hemp is not an issue for you.

      Delete
    2. Oops -- I meant "hemp powder" not "heart powder" -- obviously! I did a test and am not reactive to hemp.

      Delete
    3. Yes, I was making that assumption. If hemp has been tested as negative, you can use these and also a hemp milk.

  6. I wanted to add that any health protocols that you are on per specific direction of your doctor or other health professional should continue to be taken while on this program unless discussed with them. For clients of mine, I recommend continuing any adrenal protocols but let me know about other supplements that may be in question.

  10. Here's a couple of food items I want to run by you:
    1. Good Earth tea (the uncaffeinated one): Rooibos, chicory root, natural flavor, rose hip, cinnamon, lemongrass, peppermint, chamomile, ginger root, anise seed, orange oil, orange peel. I hope this is ok, b/c it really helps take the edge off sugar cravings!
    2. OrganicVille Organic Dijon Mustard: Water, organic mustard seeds, organic vinegar, salt, organic turmeric, organic spices. This is really good on grass-fed beef and avocado lettuce wraps.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks. What ingredient in the mustard is the no-no? Just that it's processed?

      Delete
    2. It is the mustard seed itself. I checked this as a wheat and gluten free mustard with vinegar and it was a no.

      Delete
    3. Hmm...fascinating. Thanks for checking! Out it goes! Too bad.

  11. I started the eating plan last week and have been perfect - as far as I know - for 9 days. I'm happy to have released 5 pounds! I'm still experiencing x-reactive symptoms and they seem to be worse - especially aches and pains. Is it candida die off? And, just curious, why do you think I've released the weight so easily so far?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You recall that the other times I've been on the protocol, it took me forever to drop any weight and then it was usually just 6-8 pounds total.

      Delete
    2. Yes, if Candida is an issue the die off can be symptomatic. This is often due to the fact that mercury tends to bind with Candida, so when this dies off, mercury is released into the system.

    3. Very happy to hear of your immediate success and that was just with the nutritional plan. Way to go Jaelin!

  12. How much L-glutamine does one need to heal leaky gut syndrome asap? As much as possible? Is it a good idea to do bone broth along with RepairVite?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It is not as much how much as it is the duration. Very often with deeper gut issues, you could use this for 12 to 18 months. With that said, go ahead and add the bone broth...

  13. Did you send out the recipes for the week plan or did I miss them?

    1. They will be going out today. I wanted to add a couple more. Thanks for keeping me accountable though...

  14. The tea that Jaelin mentioned above is very tasty. Another participant was in my office today asking about the same Good Earth Sweet & Spicy tea and had some for me to try. Love it! This with a touch of coconut creamer...yum.

  15. Remember to not allow yourself to get hungry. Personally I added an additional snack size meal to my day yesterday and still managed to drop some weight.

  16. Hi, Glen

Why no canned food? Canned fish is so convenient, especially at work.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Consumption of canned foods has shown to be inflammatory. The occasional use of some sardines or like will not derail your program. I do caution against using canned foods to much, which I would define as daily.

      Delete
    2. I haven't found coconut milk that's not in a can. Have you? If so, what brand and where?

      Delete
    3. That is a tough one and will most likely have to be canned. There are also coconut creams from So Delicious that can add some fun.

      Delete
    4. Did find some today by So Delicious. What about guar gum that seems to be in all of the coconut milks? Btw, had flax seed cereal w/coconut milk this morning. Not exactly Honey Nut Cheerios (which I haven't had in I don't know how many years), but pretty satisfying. Don't know how it is for a stand-alone meal or snack for us high-protein types. I was pretty low energy today.

  18. My fav blended smoothie recipe is: coconut milk (or water), cucumber, celery, avocado, scoop of protein mix, chia and/or flax, and sometimes ice. Sometimes I add a few frozen strawberries or blueberries. Can also add coconut flakes (unprocessed, unsweetened, of course).

    ReplyDelete
  19. Just finished my favorite treat. Home made flax cereal with coconut milk and cream. It does not sound as good as it taste.

  20. Flax cereal recipe:
    1 cup of flax seed
    1/2 cup of water
    Season with cinnamon and nutmeg
    Soak overnight in the fridge
Place on cookie sheet in a thin layer
Cook at 275 degrees for 60 minutes
    Mix around every 15 minutes
Once cooled break up into smaller pieces and store in a glass jar
Poor coconut milk and coconut cream over this in a bowl
    Enjoy!

    2. Ok...more flax seed discussion in the Proffit household this morning...I've read that flax is not good for men to eat because it affects the prostate negatively. Thoughts?

      Delete
    3. The form of flax that is a potential problem for both men's prostrate and women's breast health is the flax seed oil and not the whole flax seed.

  21. Example of a days worth of meals for me...
Breakfast - Pea protein with coconut milk
Snack - Small piece of cold sausage cooked last night
Lunch - Left over ribeye and broccoli with an avocado
Dinner - Sauteed white fish and scallops with sweet potato
Snack - Flax cereal with coconut milk and cream

Lots of awarenesses today on cravings and emotions ... And being deprived of those food I -Go to.. wow..I will be keeping a journal on my experiences...I went to mothers and loaded up on foods and will keep the food flow happening ..
BTW~ which coconut cream do you use? and where do you get it? can we make coconut yogurt and kefer water is that acceptable?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. We get our coconut milk and cream at Sproats but they also have the creamer at Whole Foods. Yes, you can make yogurt and kefir.

      Delete
    2. Lanae, try some coconut cream (not the creamer, which has sugar) in the Good Earth herbal tea to help with cravings.

  24. Glen, does it matter whether the flax seed is ground or not for your recipe? Thank you!

  26. Something that comes up every year for many on the program is emotional unrest at times. If this occurs make sure you take 5 really good deep belly breaths. Keeping a journal as mentioned by Lanae is also a good way to help work through the emotional component. Other veterans may share what they have done in the past to get through the emotional challenges.

  27. Hello!
I have some questions as I'm a first timer on this:
    1. You say bacon, and I'm thinking pork bacon. Is this correct?
    2. What is the pea protein? I need the actual name. Is this something that came with my order?
    3. Is the pea protein something we can have every day or several times a day?
    4. As far as supplementation, I am following what you said to do on this blog and not the way the Apex directions said about the supps. We don't need to be concerned with their directions, correct?
    5. Regarding 2 capsules of Glutathione Recycler before breakfast and dinner. Will I run out of this and need to order more?

So sorry about all the questions. Thanks so much for your help!

    1. I'm glad you asked because these are my questions as well. Also I live in a tiny rural town with one grocery store. What can I substitute for the coconut cream and pea protein, and some of the other not so common items? As I will never find them around here.

      Delete
    2. I believe Glen sells a pea protein powder. Also, I would go on-line for coconut cream. I need to be dairy-free but, I also need a good amount of fat in my diet. When I found coconut cream, it was my saving grace. It is very satisfying!

      Delete
    3. 1. When I say bacon I do mean pork but turkey bacon works just as well if preferred. The only thing with turkey bacon is the importance of adding and avocado with this due the the significantly lower fat content.
      2. The brand I use at my office is called ProteinVite but there are others available at stores. This is basically a protein powder that is derived from peas.
      3. You can use the pea protein more than once daily if needed.
      4. The is correct. The "More Than Just Weight Loss" program is evolved from the Apex program.
      5. The Nitric Balance and Glutathione Recycler are only for the first week and you should run out at that time.

No worries about the questions. This helps everybody.

  29. My meals yesterday as an example.
Breakfast - Pea protein in coconut milk and one sausage
    Snack - Pear
    Snack - Plantain chips (5)
Snack - 2 slices of bacon
Dinner - Large mixed greens salad, Cuban pork loin sandwich minus the bun, cheese and sauce and some sweet potato fries
Cocktails - With others that were drinking so I had 2 club soda with muddled blueberries.

This was an unusual day since I could not eat lunch but I still worked in some snacks so I did not get hungry.

  30. Hi Glen,
I went to whole foods today looking for the coconut creamer and the only one they had is the So Delicious but it has sugar in it.. Which one did you get?
I got a coconut cream from mothers in a carton called Kara and it tastes pretty good... Also got the coconut Mana ( coconut butter and coconut meat by Nutiva which is really yummy...feeling much better today and starting to get the rhythm of how to do this diet and what is working for my body..

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Kara is a good brand and the So Delicious plain coconut creamer is comparable in sugar to the yogurt.

  31. What about coconut sugar? I am assuming it is not allowed, but just thought I'd ask, just in case it was ok.

  34. Sunday's meals for me:
Breakfast - Flax cereal with coconut milk and cream and 3 pieces of bacon
Snack - 3 pieces of bacon
Snack - Avocado with a few plantain chips
Snack - Trader Joe's ridged sweet potato chips
Early dinner - 2 steak tacos with avocado, onion and cilantro (no tortilla or salsa of course)
Late dinner - Chick thigh with finely chopped olives
For fun today I also had two muddled blueberries with sparkling water

    1. Looking back at this, I truly ate all day. The great thing about this plan is that this can occur and still lose weight and inflammation.

      Delete
    2. I'm finding that I'm not hungry with 3 meals a day - it's awesome! I've actually cut back from ½ avocado to ¼ b/c I'm so full. I'm getting plenty of meat fat from bacon, chicken skin and a delicious roast I cooked in the crock pot all day. :)

  35. I'm really ENJOYING the coconut cream in my GE tea and the homemade flax cereal with coconut milk…so… I'm a little concerned! ha!ha! Is it too carby for us dealing with adrenal issues and that have high protein metabolisms?

    1. Actually for the protein types, these can fill in well with other flesh proteins through the day.

  36. Hi! It's Susan. Thanks so much for answering my questions. You have no idea how I was perusing those labels trying to find pea protein or pea juice or something. LOL!

Glen, I'm glad you mentioned some feelings from the emotional side. I'm normally not a "down feeling" person, but this weekend, I felt this way. Tried to analyze why so, could this be a part of the sugar blues withdrawal syndrome? Questions:

    1. Is this feeling just a day in the life of a program follower? OR...

    2. Do we need some kind of supplement and will this feeling pass? Actually, I call it the "Bla's."

    3. I know Tumero is on backorder, but did Apex say when it could be sent?

    4. I kind of feel like I'm eating too much or doing something incorrectly because I don't have the great energy yet. I know to be patient and I am.

    5. How much can we share on this blog without you all being bored with stories?

    Thank you!
    :)

    1. Hi Susan,

      1. Yes, the sugar blues will be an issue at the beginning if sugar has been a regular part of your days. For those that are not using any stimulants such as sugar or coffee, this is not likely an issue.
      2. This should pass by the second week for you but if not let me know. There may be some help to provide.
      3. I hope to have some answers by our webinar tomorrow.
      4. People shift any different times in the program based on what you were eating and where your most substantial challenges lie. Better times are on their way.
      5. Actually the sharing on the blog is awesome for everyone. Many times others are pondering the same questions but not asking.

      My pleasure!

    2. yes! the more people share the more helpful to all on the program.. Thanks for sharing.

  38. Good morning everyone... Since I work in the Holistic Transformational Field ( Body/Mind connection) the emotions and food -reactions, responses, and food as comfort, and survival triggers that I am noticing are very amazing and at times a bit scary..
I have never been interested in diets because I am so rebellious and not into rules and thank God I am really into exercise and eat relatively good...
But for me the missing carbs and dairy and coffee have been my challenges...

Glen I have been noticing I have been going for the fats and they are really satisfying me.

can we have any other protein sources=
    Chia?
Why not Hemp? just curious ...
    any other seeds?

Here is something that I found to be really Yummy...
Home made chicken /Veg soup with Avo - and squeeze of lime.. great for breakfast as a warm start to the day..

looking for Jerky that will work with our program any ideas Glen? I need portable as I am on the road a lot..
carrots, celery are good but then need the protein..

sorry for the long winded .. hope to make the webinar tonight between clients and teaching...
    :-))))

    1. You can use chia and flax but not hemp because it is a potential intolerant food. No other seeds though. If you want to add some more protein you could use sprouts though.

Most find the satisfaction in fats on the program, so this is common. We'll learn more about this tonight with Nutritional ID.

There may be a turkey jerky at Sprouts that will work. I'll have to double check though.

      Thanks for sharing!
