The "C" Word?

by Glen Depke

One of the first communications shared with somebody that has been diagnose with the "C" word, is that we are not going to fight this, I will assist in teaching how to live in harmony with this. Think about it, we have a lot of wars. The war on drugs, the war on cancer and wars with other countries. Do we really ever win any of these wars? The answer is no! There are more drugs, more cancer and more wars. We are not winning anything!

So what do I mean by living in harmony with cancer? Understand that if you are living, breathing and reading this article; you have cancer cells in your body. Hopefully for most of you, you are living in harmony with these cells and your own body's immune function is doing its job to be sure that harmony is maintained. If this is the case, there will not be an issue for you. Now if that harmony is not maintained, this can and often leads to significant issues for many and often death.

So how do you address this without a fight? To answer this question, let me tell you of an experience with a client some years ago.

I had this client that had multiple symptom challenges but was not diagnosed with the "C" word. We reviewed the Depke Wellness protocols; they were assessed as significantly gluten intolerant, addressed simple fundamentals of health and assessed their adrenal function. This client began to follow the recommendations as discussed and then about 2 or so weeks into the protocols, they shared that they wanted to visit a conventional physician to get a "proper" diagnosis. They said, "What if I have the Big "C", you would want to know that so it can be addressed specifically?" I think my response shocked this client. First of all, I was very supportive of getting a diagnosis. Often when any diagnosis is made it can create another level of urgency for clients to take the steps needed to get into balance. What they were most shocked by though was my response to the factor of me having a diagnosis of the Big "C". I said there really would not be much that we would do differently whether you are diagnosed or not.

You see, I never feel that the diagnosis is the issue. It is all the imbalances that lead to the symptoms and diagnosis that is truly the issue.

Through my years of working with clients, many of which were diagnosed with the "C" word, it is recognized that it is never ONE thing that creates this. There is generally a host of imbalances within the body that have lead to this. When these are addressed systematically and in the steps necessary for healing, the body can create harmony again. Here is a list of typical imbalances that I have seen with those diagnosed with the "C" word.
  • Overall lack of proper fundamentals of health
  • Typically a significant challenge with emotional suppression
  • At least a stage II if not a stage III adrenal exhaustion
  • Overall gut challenges on some level
  • These gut challenges suppress immune function
  • Poor brain health
  • Often living within a toxic body
These are the areas that are recognized for most, if not all of the clients I have seen in the past that were diagnosed with cancer. So you can see that the "C" word is really not the issue, this is really the representation of multiple issues that need to be addressed. Thankfully you can address these, allow your body to find it's balance and heal itself. Understand that nobody heals you, your own innate healing ability has the capacity to do the job when you give it what it needs and take away your current challenges.

The Death of a Woman

by Glen Depke

It is recognized that during the life transition known as menopause, there is a significant decrease in the health and wellness for most women in our culture. This is due to the fact that most women move into menopausal years in a state of adrenal exhaustion. There are many different factors that tie into adrenal exhaustion, which is a subject in and by itself. If the adrenals are not in adequate function moving into this life transition, this leads to the possibility of increase of cardiovascular disease, stroke, osteoporosis, dementia, Alzheimer's disease, arthritis, and autoimmune disease. The typical symptoms initially felt for women that move into menopuase are listed below.
  • Hot flashes
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Changes in skin tone
  • Depression
  • Poor concentration and memory
  • Irregular periods
  • Hair loss and thinning
  • Pain and inflammation
  • Weight gain
  • Decreased cognitive function
  • Blood sugar imbalance
When I refer to the drop in health and wellness for women at this time, it is recognized that during a woman's life span, there will generally be a very slow and gradual decline in health known as the natural aging process. But when women enter the transition of menopause without healthy adrenal function, there is a very steep and dramatic drop in the health of a woman during the period of this transition. So there are two ways to address this. Either get your adrenals into optimal health prior to menopause or put out the fire of your symptoms and take the necessary steps balance this neuroendocrine, immunology dysfunction.

As a woman, if you can move into this transition with a balance of your fundamentals of health and healthy adrenals this can potentially make all the difference in the world. You can continue the slow and steady aging process rather then the steep and dramatic drop off or this "death."
Understanding that once you are in the midst of these symptoms and health challenges created at this time, it is not only a hormonal issue. It truly is a brain, hormone, immune, gut, and adrenal issue. When address properly, you can find your balance once again and live a life of health and happiness.

Are You Working With Half a Brain?

by Glen Depke

Funny that it seems like that at times but did you that this can be close to the truth for so many of us?

Let’s first understand that our brains are in constant development from conception until we are about 18 to 20 years old. During these times our nutrition, stress levels, movement and brain activity play a huge role in this development.  Once we hit the end of this development, the neurons in our brain begin to die off with little to no further development.

So what happens when our neurons begin to die off? Taking a look at this very simply, let’s say that you have three neurons. Neuron number one sends a message to neuron number two and neuron number two sends a message to neuron number three and so on and so on. With this said, what happens when neuron number two dies? Oops! Looks like that communication stops at neuron number two. So what was that communication, what was it directing in the body and to what area?

You probably all recognize the buzz phrase anti-aging. Well in a nutshell what I described in the paragraph above  is simply the body aging based on the aging brain determined by neuron death. Does this help to explain why it seems like we may be functioning with half a brain?

This “half a brain” is tied into poor blood flow to the brain, inflammation in the brain, essential fatty acid deficiencies and toxicity which all accelerate the death of neurons. While this may sound like a grim outcome, there is so much you can do to not only stop this but to reverse it. The key though is to address it now. Don’t wait until you have severe dementia or are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s to do this.

So how do your gauge if you are having any issues right now? Think of the early signs such as fatigue from brain activity such as driving, reading and other brain tasks, depression and/or poor digestion. You can also look at symptoms such as dry mouth, tearing loss, trouble swallowing, and/or constipation. These are all some of the early signs of that your neurons are dying and your brain is aging.

So now you might be thinking, if my neurons are dying and I cannot regenerate these, how do you improve your brain function? Well the simple answer is to feed your brain what it needs, remove what is creating the challenges and enhance your dendrite function.

To understand the role your dendrites play, let’s look at the example above in regard to neuron number one, two and three. Remember that when neuron number two dies, the communication and connection between number one and three stops? Here they come, dendrites to the rescue! If your brain health is taken care of, your dendrites have the ability to reach out like little fingers to continue that connection from number one to number three even if number two dies. Our bodies are so incredibly amazing, as long as we take care of them.

So now, what does it look like to care for your brain function and increase the dendrite function? While it does take some focus, it really is quite simple. First of all, feed your brain! Eat foods such as avocado, olives and flax seed. Those good fats are so important! Add a supplement that contains a high amount of DHA. DHA is the component of omega 3 fatty acids that is truly a deep brain food. I use high ratio DHA supplement for myself and many of my clients to maintain a healthy brain. Don’t forget to move your body. Exercise plays a huge roll in increasing blood flow to the brain as well as many other simulating factors. There are also supplements that can be used to have either an immediate impact or long term impact on increasing this blood flow. I can tell you first hand that the one that creates the immediate increase in blood flow actually makes the whole world look clearer and brighter. Really! Also make sure you use your brain; learn a new language, take up an instrument or play the game we used to as kids. Remember the game with a deck of playing cards called memory?

Follow these tips and you can find that other half of your brain that seems as if it is missing. You and your loved ones will be glad you did.

Putting Out the Fire!

by Glen Depke

If you have followed our newsletter for some time you recognize the focus that we often have on women’s health and hormones. Today we are going to take this a step further for women with premenopausal or menopausal symptoms to assist in taking the necessary steps to put out the fire of your symptom challenges.

Let’s first understand that these symptoms are not linear. Premenopause or menopause is not only an endocrine dysfunction, even though it is often treated as one by conventional and alternative medicine alike.

These symptoms are a Neuroendocrine Immunological Disorder and need to be treated as such.

During premenopause and menopause years, there is a very steep and dramatic drop in the level of women’s health almost across the board.  During this time, challenges such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, osteoporosis, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis and autoimmune disease are significantly increased. Many of the symptoms that are initially recognized will be hot flashes, vaginal dryness, changes in skin tone, depression, poor concentration, poor memory, irregular periods, hair loss or thinning, pain, inflammation, weight gain, decreased cognitive function and dysglycemia.

What really irks me is the fact that this does not need to happen, yet it continues!

As many of you that have read my posts in the past, the key to moving through this period with ease is the health of your adrenal function as well as your focus on the fundamentals of health.

If you are already in the midst of these symptoms; I want you to recognize that it is not too late.
If you have already moved into this period of your life with poor adrenal function, you will begin to experience estrogen fluctuations which often lead to hot flashes as well as the other symptoms mentioned above. Due to the loss of hormonal balance, your immune system “winds up” and causes a cytokine rise. This rise leads to inflammation, further immune challenges and eventual neurodegeneration.

Long term, this can lead to further inflammation, increased cytokine production, a breakdown in the blood/brain barrier, glia cell up regulation in the brain, further fluctuations in hormones, increased HPA axis activity, limbic system imbalances that often lead to anger and rage, and further immune system challenges. I know that some of this may get a bit technical, but get that this is creating challenges with your hormones, immune system and brain function collectively.
Also remember that estrogen deficiency has been shown to enhance the responsiveness of cells towards inflammatory cytokine receptor number and messengers which amplifies the inflammatory effects.

Enough said; it is time to put out the fire!

There is a big question though, “how do you put this fire out?”

The best way to address this is to use a combination of 3 supplements which includes Nitric Balance, Ultra D and Glutathione Recycler. Together these will assist in balancing the immune system function, shift you out of the inflammatory states, increasing blood flow, increasing brain function, stimulating cellular energy production as well as providing the necessary antioxidant properties needed. This along with addressing any gut challenges as well as proper nutrition can and typically does put out this fire so you can continue creating balance as needed.
For women severely challenged with hot flashes, I also recommend a supplement called Estrovite to balance the estrogen fluctuations that lead to these hot flashes. Remember that it is the fluctuation of estrogen that creates the hot flashes. This is why women will often continue to suffer with hot flashes even though they have introduced bio-identical hormones.

Also understand that this can be a roller coaster ride but as you continue to put out the fire and get a deeper understanding of the triggers that lead to your symptoms, you can eventually get your health back and move into your state of balance and happiness desired.
