2014 More Than Just Weight Loss - Week Three

Welcome to week three of "More Than Just Weight Loss" week three. Week two is typically one of the most challenging weeks on the program and this showed for a few participants. This is most often due to those fighting some type of pathogen in their gut that typically have been there creating havoc for some time. Unfortunately, these pathogens go undiagnosed and lead to a host of physical and mental/emotional health issues. Thankfully this is being addressed for you right now.

Week three is a continuation of the gut support phase with of course the continued anti-inflammatory and immune support.

This week we will also discuss possible reactivity withing your allowable foods to assist you in fine tuning your diet and/or working through some trouble spots for yourself personally. With this said, be sure you watch this weeks webinar for directions on use of this updated food list.

Also be sure to incorporate the Nutritional ID percentages and preferred foods in your diet but remember, the allowable/avoidance food list trumps your Nutritional ID.

Week three supplements are the same as week two.

  • Tumero - 1 teaspoon twice per day
  • Resvero - 1 teaspoon twice per day
  • Ultra D - 2 teaspoon twice per day
  • GI Synergy - 1 packet twice per day
  • Strengthia - 2 capsules twice per day
  • Repairvite - 1 scoop twice per day
I am excited for you to move through the gut support phase this week and continued success for all.

Wellness for the World,
Glen

  1. It made me feel so much better to hear Lynda say that she gained on this plan last year. I feel like a failure. I did go down from a 5 pound gain, to a 3 pound gain, so there is some progress I guess. I know now that I have been eating some high reactive allowable foods, so that's gonna change. Hopefully I will garner a loss soon. I'll be shouting it from the rooftops when I do. :)

    1. Hi Dara and Sue -- I wish I could tell you both how scared and frustrated I was last year when I was at this exact point of the plan. I know I said this before, but when I read your posts today, I could totally empathasize with you! I am not someone who gives up on things. I'm a "fighter" : ) But last year at this point when I hadn't lost any weight, I was starting to feel pretty hopeless. I am so thankful that Glen and the group here rallied behind me. As much as I want to think I "know my body," there was still a big piece yet that I was yet to learn : )

I had heard that some people didn't even start losing weight till then last week, so I decided to keep plugging along!

Even if I had ended up losing only a few pounds (instead of 20 or 30), I still would have been happy, because the health situation I had, that the doctors had given up on, was causing me to gain at least 2-3 pounds a month non-stop (and I was already a "healthy" eater with a healthy life-style).

This year on the plan, I have realized something that I would not have ever gotten to if I didn't go through last year's plan. I have noticed this subtle (but cool) change in how my body's immune system is starting to function. I have been dealing with this for years - and while it still might be a challenge for me, just noticing this change going on is really cool!

So, I've figured, there really has got to be something to this! I always trusted Glen because I could tell that he knew his stuff and was totally committed to getting me healthy, but I wanted to feel the change in my own body to convince myself it was "real" : )

That's why, when I read about people who were just where I was at last year when I was at my lowpoint, I want to try to give you my support to keep going : )

My shift last year (my body really did completely stop adding weight every month like clockwork!) and the subtle, but important, shifts I'm feeling now where because of this plan. I didn't make any other changes to my lifestyle or medications or anything.

So I will be sending you some good vibes and "virtual" hugs. Good things are happening for you!

  2. Lynda's comment made me feel better, too! It was so great to drop a few the first week, and so annoying to see it creep creep back on. Even just a little here & there. I'd much rather have it go the other way.

I know that weight is NOT the point, however, it's a measurement tool used to monitor progress.

I can't see any real reactive food possibilities other than cucumbers. I'll have to restrict that and see if there's change. I'm also wondering about the pea protein I use in smoothies. I think I'll cut out smoothies for several days and see...

    1. It is very likely pathogens for you Sue. You'll move through this and find the other side soon enough. It is still not a bad idea to test some of these foods.

Breakfast - 2/3 of an apple cubed mixed with a tablespoon of organic homestyle no sugar added apple sauce
Snack - Small handful of plantain chips with avocado
Snack - Flax flat bread with coconut butter
Dinner - 2 duck leg quarters with kale
Snack - Flax cereal with blueberries and coconut milk/cream
3 cups of tea with coconut cream through the day

Have you morphed into a mixed type? There doesn't seem to be much protein in your meals anymore.

  5. I don't know if it happened with anyone else but my colon went from slightly sluggish to abundant movement of the last day and a half. This has helped with dumping weight. I enjoyed a 1.8 pound loss since Tuesday morning. Yay!

  6. Hi Y'all~ Glen my colon has felt sluggish and not moving very well... any suggestions..Colonic? how do you feel about coffee enema's? Also today noticed hard to keep blood sugar balanced and feeling challenged at getting a satisfied feeling from my foods..Also not
feeling like Im not losing any weight although I haven't weighed myself.. please excuse my complaining, maybe a healing/cleansing crisis? What would happen if I really cut out a lot of the fat and proteins and just did a juice fast do you think I would lose the belly?
maybe all the coconut is too much for me?
    any thoughts...

    1. I am not against coffee enemas or colon hyrdrotherapy if needed. There is also a combination of Chinese herbs called CFC that I use with success with my clients for moving the colon.

In regard to feeling satisfied, are you using your Nutritional ID and balancing your macro-nutrients? It is very important to get your protein, veggie and fat together when you eat. I would not suggest doing a juice fast even for a day on this program due to the fact that it will be a disadvantage to losing belly fat.

I can share that it is very unlikely that the problem is too much fat except for those that are potentially veggie types.

No worries, I do not see this as complaining, just working out some issues. Happy to address this!

    2. If you're not already eating the flax seed cereal for breakfast (the recipe Glen gave us in week 1), you may try that as well. I found that it helped move things along. As a protein type, I also found that the flax cereal/coconut milk combo kept me satisfied for a few hours, too.

  9. Thank you so much for the love Jeanette! I really needed to hear that today. I have a couple chronic illnesses that cause a lot of joint and muscle pains, migraines and other various maladies. Those symptoms have decreased remarkably and I couldn't be happier. However I am obese and would LOVE to drop a pound or two. I really appreciate your support and will just trust that this is going to happen. Hopefully sooner than later. :-)

  10. Hi Dara : ) You're very welcome! : ) I also know the feeling of chronic pain and I do know how challenging and energy-draining that can be. You should give yourself an ole "pat on the back" for getting on this program. That commitment itself, is a victory for you! I am really happy to hear that you have already seen some of your symptoms decrease. You know, that's not a little thing! I think that's a big deal -- and a really good sign! If I understand this correctly from Glen, I think it's kind of like layers of an onion. Some of us have different things happen at different times, but sounds like you are definitely already getting changes - and I bet that weight stuff is soon to follow! Yeah for you!

    1. Glad to hear of your successes, Dara! Hang in there with the weight! This 6-week program is a jump-start to a new way of living and health. :) It's a journey. Focus on being good to yourself by gradually adding in more healthy things to your lifestyle, the unhealthy things will start to fall away and the weight will be a wonderful by-product.

  11. I need help finding calcium. I'm using an app that counts all that stuff. I programmed it to the amount of protean, fat, and carbs that I want, and it also tracks things like calcium, fiber, sugars, and sodium, (and calories), etc. (it's called My Net Diary Pro). I can't seem to hit my calcium numbers - not even close - about 1/4 what the program says I should be doing. Should I go back on my calcium supplements?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would not be concerned about the calcium at this time Nancy. If you want to increase this add some sardines and eat the bones and dark green leafy vegetables.

      Delete
    2. Magnesium is more important for our overall health and our bone health than calcium. In fact, the populations in countries with the highest dairy intake also have the highest incidence of osteoporosis. Your dark green leafy veggies are a superior source of bioavailable calcium and magnesium. Sardines are a great bioavailable calcium source as well.

      Delete
    3. Unfortunately, I hate sardines. They make me gag. Any other fishes? Or anything else? I do eat lots of leafy greens. But today I was told that spinach can actually leach calcium. Do you know if that's true?

      Delete
    4. Raw spinach contains oxalic acid, which binds with calcium, making it unavailable to your body.

Fortunately, lightly cooking the spinach will break down the oxalic acid without losing too many nutrients. Vitamin C (citrus juice on your spinach salad) will help block oxalic acid from binding to calcium as well.

  20. Aaaagghhhh! I'm giving up coconut for the next week, see how I feel then add it back in to see if my suspicion is correct that I may have a x-reactive sensitivity to it. I just remembered my new LOVE - raw veggie flat bread - has coconut in it! So I'm back to basic meat and veggies and no treats. (I just had BACON for a late night snack.)

    ReplyDelete

    1. What is happening to make you think you might be sensitive to coconut. I've been wondering the same thing.

      Delete
    2. A coconut sensitivity is unlikely, but with that said, you can overdo anything, including coconut. Another thing to look at is the ingredients in the coconut products, such as guar gum. This can be an issue for some. Of course there is nothing wrong with giving something up to assess the issue. Please keep us updated on how this progresses for you.

    3. Nancy, my worst days are the days I eat coconut although still can't quite tell food reactions from die-off reactions. I was thinking this morning of changing my mind and stick with Glen's general advice to just eat the foods in the 10% column and see how I feel. I do eat pork daily, but never thought I had a problem with it. Glen and Lynda, I'm feeling pretty confused (goes along with adrenal fatigue and leaky gut, I think).

I did accidentally stumble upon some enlightening info today while checking out Dr McBride's GAPS website and some others. FOS (fructooligosaccharides) are not allowed on the GAPS diet. I researched why it might not be allowed and found out it is undigestible. This apparently goes for gums like guar gum (in many coconut products) too. Our delicious Good Earth herbal tea contains chickory root which contains FOS. This probably doesn't explain a reaction, but am not sure I should be eating and drinking these 2 items.

At this point, I think I'll just stick with the general guidelines through the course and see how it shakes out in 3 weeks...but I may change my mind... "Glen, what about my bacon??" she asks with a whiny voice and a big pout... :)

      Delete
    4. And to clarify, my 'worst days' means that at night, I have neuralgia-type feelings in my legs and that icky electricity feeling in all my limbs.

      Delete
    5. Quite a few coconut products contain carageenan, which can contribute to inflammation.

      Delete
    6. No carageenan in any of the products I've been consuming. :) Maybe the coconut is really help kill parasites and that's why I feel so lousy.

      Delete
    7. As far as the FOS is concerned, it is true that they are not digestible but we have to look at this further. FOS are non-digestible food ingredients that stimulate the growth and/or activity of bacteria in the digestive system in ways to be beneficial to health. Often even experts will grab the first part of a statement and leave out the golden nugget.

      Delete
    8. I would agree that carageenans can be an issue for some, but based on her checking her ingredients not an issue for Jaelin.

  22. on Coconut...a few years ago, I had a doctor suggest I eat for my Blood type, based on a book by that name..I am an O+ and in this way of eating All coconut products are not good for me and to be avoided.. Glen, have you looked at this at all? I would expect that you have, so what is your take on eating for you Blood type?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In my opinion a blood typing diet can offer you some incites to test but is not absolute. The blood we are born with is the blood that we die with and in that time frame there are many other factors that determine our nutritional needs. I have had clients that blood typing recommends to eliminate flesh protein, that excel on a protein type meal plan. I do feel that it is good to look at everything though, because you never know where you may pick up a golden nugget for yourself. Thank you for sharing...

    2. Carolyn, I'm familiar with the Blood Type Diet and I too, am O+. I do recall that coconut is not recommended for O's.

I have a friend who used to be a rep for Apex, the company that mfr.'s the supplements we're on for our program. She has an interesting theory about the Blood Type Diet: She says that the ones that do the best on it are the O's and they are the ones who are supposed to eat more meat and less carbs. :-D

      Delete
    3. Actually, more specifically, she said the O's cut out wheat and dairy.

    4. thanks Jaelin, That is interesting and makes a lot of sense... maybe the coconut really doesn't matter that much in that "diet after all.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Stick with the program through your head cold because this will help you move through this quicker. I would get back on the GI Synergy at least at one packet per day or two if this is not an issue. Drinks lots of liquids and dry skin brushing and rebounding would also help immensely.

      Delete
    2. ...a good Epsom salt bath for a few days in a row would also help.

      Delete
  24. Oooohhhh I LIKE that idea. I've had a head cold for at least 3 weeks. I use a CPAP and it keeps me from using that. I feel like I'm being suffocated. It's been longer than we've been on the program. I'm hoping it's a healing thing.

    1. It is generally good to do an Epsom salt bath when sick....

  25. Glen, you know I've been doing coffee enemas. Do you recall that I'm x-reactive positive to coffee? At first, I was filtering the coffee with a paper filter, then found out that paper filters filter out the chemicals that help clean the liver, so I've stopped filtering. Am I getting the same reactive symptoms from the coffee through the liver and bloodstream as I would if I ingested it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I did just check your cross reactive testing and yes, you are intolerant to coffee, so the coffee enemas can be leading to inflammation for you.

  26. BTW, Glen, as I was down the rabbit hole on the internet today, I also discovered some info about prebiotics. I had asked you about it one time and about the one that you sell. Prebiotics apparently feed all the flora in the gut - good and bad - not recommended for us with leaky gut. You had mentioned that the prebiotic you sell is ok. Can you check on this for sure for me?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I have never found this to be an issue at all and I have many clients with leaky gut on the prebiotic/probiotic formula. Maybe a note to make is that I am also typically working with my clients to reduce the detrimental bacteria. Perhaps another missing piece of this is that I do not offer a prebiotic on its own, always with a probiotic.

  31. Uh oh - I've been having a severe stuffy nose (could not pull in any air whatsoever from my right nostril for days. I did not eat or drink anything coconut and I am feeling much better today. Think I'll have another coconut free day (though I'm off to Mother's to get the Flax Flat bread) and see how it goes. Then I'll try it the day after and see what happens... I really don't want to be reactive to coconut. I love the stuff!!!

ALSO and this was interesting... this morning when I was walking with a friend of mine I did not have to search for a word once! My thinking was clear, all the words I wanted were right there. It was very interesting. Also, I'm doing a thing called The Perfect Workout - it's a slow motion weight training program. Been doing it for a while, but they just started a competition last month - I was weighed, measured, and had BMI and other indicators taken on January 10th (I'd just started working with Glen and was off my allergic foods and on a bunch of supplements starting the 7th), so I was already on my way when we started this program. Yesterday, February 10th, much to my joy (because I haven't been feeling all that successful on this program), I saw the hard data and I've lost just over 7 pounds, my BMI is down over 1 point, my body fat down almost 2 % and muscle up 1%, my body age is down by 3 years, and my v-fat number (which they called the gold standard - I have no idea what it is) is down 1. I'm 1 away from what they classify as the maximum for good health and I'm sure I'll be there on March 10th. I've also lost a bunch of inches including 6 inches around my belly which is kind of surprising since I haven't been really feeling it in my clothes all that much. And 6 inches is a lot - but then, I've been mostly doing the stretchy pants lately..

    This gives me hope!
